PROGRAM NOTES:

red planet is a collaborative piece that draws inspiration from the discovery and exploration of Mars, as well as human scientific progress more broadly. In general, the choral movements (numbers 2, 4, 6, and 8) draw inspiration from specific events that have occured throughout history relating to Mars. The interludes (numbers 3, 5, and 7) draw inspiration from human scientific progress and how that progress grows exponentially over time.
